Indiahikes is a Hiking portal. The portal creates a market place for consumers to get information on hiking in India and also book trekking tours. As a community portal, it brings together trekkers/hikers, trekking agents, suppliers of equipment, transporters, guides and porters in one place - thus forming a market. This helps everyone to get information and leads to potential customer.
If in India you want to go on a trek, say in the Himalayas, then things are not as organized as they are in western countries. Information is scarce. If you wanted to go on the Deo Tibba pass trek, then you wouldn't know: 1. Where the trail was (which part of India)? 2. Where do you start and where do you end the trek. 3. Where do you camp on the way. 4. What is the equipment that you need to take along. 5. Who could help organise the trek for you. 6. Where would you get contact information of trekking agents/guides/porters for the route. 7. How do you reach the basecamp. 8. The trek details (elevation, difficulty, terrain etc). Despite these constraints Indians love trekking. Through friends, resources and the internet they piece together the information and go trekking. Keeping this problem in mind we wanted to build a hiking portal that would solve this problem of trekkers. We want our portal to be the medium through which consumers of hiking/trekking find information and access to choices of service providers. Thus, was born the Indiahikes project. Now, such a project requires fund. While we have put together funds from our own resources to build the portal, it isn't enough. The portal requires venture funding. While we are scouting around for suitable VCs, we are raising funds by doing what we know best - organise expeditions. All proceeds from your Roopkund trek bookings will fund the Indiahikes project. We give below a screen shot of the Indiahikes portal. |
